A Classic Treat: Vintage Corset Looks

0 comments Leave a comment

Hey there Atomic Vixens!

Are you ready for a super- scrumptious, video treat? I hope so. Go right ahead and clear your schedule for the next 5 minutes.  You are not going to want to miss this.

Drumroll please: da da da da da da da da

Alright; that's enough suspense. Here's your treat:

Atomic Jane Clothing recently had the honor of seeing the one and only Miss CherryDollface (OMG!) put together some amazing, sexy, smart, vintage looks in one of her infamous Youtube videos.

I know! Amazing right? We totally loved the tips and ideas she shared with her fans. Check it out for yourself. Don't forget to scroll down after the video for more info on the pieces Cherry wore.

Outfit #1: The Nautical Striped Halter

Cherry made a great point. You can get two totally different looks by wearing the corset over your clothes or under. This piece is fun and versatile. The navy and white striped halter corset has matching striped lapels on the straps, a ribbon detail in front, satin bust with darts for shaping and satin trim along the lower edge.

It has a front busk closure, and a ribbon lace up back. Perfect with pants, jeans, skirt or shorts. Go anywhere in this one.

Outfit #2: The Versatile Black Underbust

Have a dress in the back of the closet that could use some new life? Add this underbust corset ontop like Cherry did to her dress. Of course you could always wear it under your clothes for cinching the waist and slimming the tummy area.

This little corset has a clean, simple design with a four front busk closure and heavy cording in back for tight lacing.

Outfit #3: The Adorable Vintage Pink Polka Dot Corset

Cherry choose to pair this cute little number with capri pants. We "heart" this. For her second outfit, she tucked it inside high waist shorts. Wow. What a complete different look. Perfect for an easy summer outfit.

Adorable pin-up polka dot corset has detailed, black lace overlay bra cups with underwire support, attached, pink satin belt, little bow details, and  hook and eye back closure.

Outfit #4: The Naughty Vintage Steampunk Corset

This Stunning Black Brocade Corset features a steel boned bodice with faux leather accents and a removable high neck shrug, large snap up pocket attached, zipper on the side and a lace-up panel in the back. And of course. A thong.

Outfit #5: The Sexy Goth Halter with Cool Clasps

This black Steampunk jacquard overbust corset has a halter neckline and turn back collar, adjustable clasp behind the neck, four metal front busk closures and a "V" cut on bottom edge.

Both the top and bottom edges are trimmed in faux black leather. It features a corded lace up back and includes a matching G-string.

Did you have a favorite outfit in Cherry's video? We want to know which one! Leave a comment or shoot us an email at support@atomicjaneclothing.com

Pin-Up Clothing Pin-Up Fashion

Ahhh, the pin-up girl. Sexy, playful, and completely unapologetic! There's a combination of innocence, confidence, and strength that emanates through pin-up clothing.

It's so incredibly appealing, and here at Atomic Jane we just absolutely can't get enough.

We strongly believe that pin-up fashion is by no means only for models and special occasions, and we think that every woman has the ability to channel this incredibly liberating aesthetic every day!

In order to help our pin-up loving Atomic babes incorporate this look into their everyday lives, we've put together a little "Everyday Pin-Up Fashion Guide" featuring some of our absolute favorite pieces!

Before we get started on these to-die-for looks, let's take a little look back in time and see how this aesthetic came to be all that it is today...

WHERE DOES PIN-UP FASHION COME FROM?

Pin-Up Clothing Pin-Up Fashion

The pin-up fashion aesthetic has roots all the way back in the late 19th century, beginning with the images that Burlesque babes and other performers would use on their business cards to promote themselves.

As this form of self-expression gained popularity and recognition, it didn't take long for mainstream artists and models take notice and liking to this revolutionary aesthetic.

As decades passed, the pin-up style really officially hit its stride in the early 1940's, widely associated with the images of movie stars being produced in huge volumes with the purpose of being "pinned up" at informal locations.

This came at the same time as WWII, and what really set this aesthetic on fire were the images being widely used to increase soldier morale.

Before then, women were widely portrayed on either extreme ends of the sexual spectrum, never before having been portrayed as free, confident, and lively in this beautiful way!

Although pin-up clothing and fashion really took a backseat from the 1960's through the 1990's, it has enjoyed a strong resurgence lately, and the tantalizing and mysterious nature of the style is back and more accessible than ever!

We can't wait for you to take part in this, so let's dive into the fashion and see just how you vixens can incorporate this strength and sexiness into your everyday lives.

Click on any of the images below to be brought to their individual purchase pages over on the Atomic Jane website!

Your Quick Guide To 1950's Fashion!

1950's Fashion 1950's Dress

If you love 1950's fashion as much as we do, you're familiar with that warm, happy feeling you get whenever you think of the bright patterns, feminine silhouettes, and scenes of drive-in movies and diners of that special decade.

We're so incredibly in love with 1950's fashion here at Atomic Jane, made clear through our extensive selection of beautiful 1950's dresses and skirts!

Because we hold these pieces so dear, we want to feature them in a special way for all of you vixens to see just how much fun you can have with 1950's fashion.

Throughout this week's post, we'll go through a brief overview of what makes 1950's fashion so special and give you a peek at how an Atomic Babe would style a few of our favorite pieces!

Let's not waste any more time and get right to it!

1950'S FASHION BASICS

1950's Fashion 1950's Dress

A notable characteristic about this decade of fashion is its roots in conformity. In this post-war time of economic boom and deep focus on "Keeping Up With The Jones's", there was not much stray from the shape of the clothing for women during this time period and the hourglass figure completely ruled fashion.

Where women were really able to express themselves was within the bright, beautiful colors and patterns of their clothing, as well as the bold accessories and makeup of the time.

This being said, we can easily break down 1950's fashion into three steps:

  1. The Dress/The Skirt
  2. The Accessories
  3. The Makeup

Although we'll highlight multiple different styles of dresses and skirts that were so signature to 1950's fashion, these pieces have one very important thing in common: they are smart, clean, and accentuated the hourglass figure in the most incredibly flattering way.

The accessories popular to the time followed suit in their crisp appearance, and more often than not, perfectly matched the main color, namely the dress or the skirt. Women were ultra-feminine and ultra-put together, never failing to complete the outfit to the highest degree!

When it came to makeup, the lips were the star of the 1950's! Lipstick, lipstick, lipstick was the name of the game. Although red lips were center stage, Audrey Hepburn's declared love of pink played a part in popularizing shades of pink and peach throughout these years. Who knew?

1950'S FASHION: STYLED FOR EVERY OCCASION

Now that you have a solid foundation of the basic components of 1950's fashion, it's time to run through a few of our absolute favorite 1950's inspired dresses and skirts at Atomic Jane!

We have a plethora, and I really mean a plethora, of beautiful dresses and skirts to choose from, perfect for any and all occasions.

Because these pieces are so versatile, it can be a task to figure out just when and where to wear them (and how!).

Have no fear ladies, we took it upon ourselves to choose some of our favorite pieces and accessorize them specific to each occasion.

There's a lot of room for creativity and interpretation here, so take this as a dash of inspiration to make any of these beautiful 1950's pieces your own. Click on any of the sets below to go to their individual purchase pages on our website!

Let's go!

Rockabilly Fashion Rockabilly Dress

What do you get when you combine the influences of Rock music, Country music, ‘50s fashion, and a bit of Punk? A breed of fashion that has seen decades and decades of transformation, allowing it to culminate into the unique genre that it is today.

If you think Rockabilly fashion is hard to define, you are correct! A crazy combination of all of the most inspiring parts of its influences, the true meaning of Rockabilly fashion differs from region to region and even person to person. All we know over here at Atomic Jane is that we can’t. get. enough.

Whether you’re merely intrigued by the concept of Rockabilly fashion and have a vague idea of what it entails in your head (any scene from the movie Grease? Or Cry Baby?) or you’re seasoned in the genre and looking to step-up your Rockabilly fashion game, you’ve come to the right place!

Because we have so many Rockabilly inspired pieces on our website, we deemed it beneficial for us to give you a little history of the genre and show you some of our favorite Rockabilly dresses and why we’re so obsessed with them. Time to fall in love with Rockabilly fashion!

The History Of Rockabilly Fashion

Rockabilly Fashion Rockabilly Dress

As proven throughout history, fashion and music go incredibly hand-in-hand, and the formation of the Rockabilly fashion genre is no exception! Heavily influenced by the Rock and Country music of the 1950s, Rockabilly fashion took on a life of its own as it pulled some of the most recognizable fashion elements from both music genres and combined them to form something exciting and revolutionary.

Although the roots of Rockabilly fashion are planted firmly in the 1950s and 1960s, the influence it has had on music, movies, and fashion alike can be seen in every single decade since then, still deeply woven into culture today.

Movies like Grease, Cry-Baby, and Hairspray (among many others) pay incredible homage to this culture and with multiple revivals in the ‘70s and ‘90s, it's clear that Rockabilly fashion really has that special something that we just won’t ever let go of!

The Elements Of Rockabilly Fashion

So now you know the influences of Rockabilly fashion, but what exactly is the look? The most defining elements of Rockabilly fashion for women are its combination of the typical feminine ‘50s look - with an edge. Think a feminine, floral swing dress but with tattoos, Converse All Stars, animal prints, bandanas, and bright red lipstick.

Seriously, what's not to love about this?

At Atomic Jane, we have a huge variety of one of our favorite aforementioned elements of Rockabilly fashion - the Rockabilly dress! Our Rockabilly dresses are so incredibly beautiful and with the context of Rockabilly fashion in mind and all the possibilities for accessorizing and adding your own personal style elements, there's no way that you won’t find a soulmate in one of our stunning pieces.
